coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on two. >> and good morning everybody. welcome to mornings on two. it's saturday august 10th. >> let's check in on your weather with rosemary. how are things looking this saturday morning? >> we have a warming trend this morning. a lot like how we started yesterday. the low clouds back with us. patchy drizzle around the bay and we are looking at an afternoon with mostly sunny skies, if the warming trend were going to carry into early next week. i will have your numbers for today. i will show you how warm i expect we will get in the extended forecast coming up. >> authorities are still trying to identity a body found during the search for a missing woman from oakland. crews were looking for sandra coke yesterday afternoon when they found the body of a woman in vacaville. she has been missing since sunday. she is an investigator with the

federal defender's office in sacramento. >> we are waiting confirmation on the identity of the body and then after that the next process will be to tell the next of kin. >> oakland police identified a convicted sex offender as a person of interest in the case. coke's friends say the two dated 20 years ago and he recently reappeared in her life. more details on the former alameda county prosecutor said the 56-year-old was acquitted of murder in the 80s but while awaiting trial he was charged in the death of another inmate. he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to six years. he also has prior convictions for kidnapping and rape and served time for robbery. he is currently being held. >> officials are sister ago in on the dense idaho wilderness for the man accused of killing two people and kidnapping

hannah anderson. the bodies of anderson's mother and brother were found in a burned out house last sunday. investigators say his car was found hidden under some brush yesterday with its license plates removed. officials were able to confirm it was his car using a vin number this have been searching the woods since wednesday when horse back riders reported seeing him and anderson. they had backpacks and the teen didn't appear to be harmed. more than 100 people are searching for them on foot and on horse back. checkpoints have been set up as well. >> our number one concern is tipping hannah. at the same time we want to make sure crews are safe. >> and in another development dna analysis confirmed that the remains of 8-year-old ethan anderson were found in the burned out house. >> happening today, four major

events in and around san francisco are bringing nearly 150,000 people to the city by the bay. that is also bringing some major traffic concerns. alex savage live for us at san francisco golden gate park. the site of the outside music festival. >> reporter: they are getting ready to get started. golden gate park will be packed with people and this will be one of several spots around san francisco where you will find large crowds. these gates behind me will open to the public at 11 for this sold out festival. i'm told that people will start showing up much earlier than that to try to stake out a prime spot for today's shows ♪ [ music ] the 6th outside music and art festival kicked off yesterday with a headlining set from paul

mcartney. a crowd of 6 5,000 were on hand to take in all the shows during day one of the music festival. today's line up includes fans like jurassic5, phoenix and nine inch nails. sometimes with all the big crowds and people there can be problems for people who live close to the park. a lot of neighbors have raised concerns and sometimes it's because people have spent the day drinking during the festival. >> when people are coming out of the show they are in a much worse situation. when they go in they are friendly and happy. when they come home they want to get away with things. >> reporter: now here is a break down of what will be a busy day here in san francisco. outside from noon to ten tonight in addition there is 49ers fan fest that's happening at candle stick fest starting at noon. on top of that the giants are at home facing the orioles at at&t park with a 1:05 first pitch there and of course don't forget about america's cup

always ongoing. you can expect big crowds there -- they have a race that gets started at one this afternoon. if you are heading into the city today you are probably going to have company and can probably expect heavy traffic. live this morning in san francisco, alex savage. >> you just heard him mention 49erss fan fest. today's event will be the last one held at candlestick park. thousands of fans will be headed to the stick to watch the team practice and grab autographs. there will be live music, face painting, photograph booths and the only time training camp will be open to the public. the festival gets going at noon and you can watch practice from two to four. 49ers alumni, the gold rush cheerleaders and current player also be there to sign autographs. >> bart negotiations resume at ten and trains will almost certainly run on monday whether or not a deal is made this

weekend. the governor plans to ask a judge to stop a strike if there is no deal by tomorrow. he filed his request for a cooling off period yesterday. bart's chief negotiator said it won't change the district's goals. >> a cooling off period isn't my concern. our concern is trying to get this thing done. >> there is no possibility that that this union will come to a resolution if our very serious safety concerns are not addressed. >> she said she waited hours for a counter proposal from bart yesterday and would be disappointed if it doesn't come in this morning. >> we have new details on the man police shot and killed thursday morning in sunnyvale. police say he lunged at s.w.a.t officers with a foot long kitchen knife. the officers had gone to the man's home after he told police dispatchers he had killed someone. after shooting the man police found a woman's body inside the

home. the identities of the man and woman have not been released. a funeral is being held for a 19-year-old. she was riding in a car when she was hit by a stray bullet and died. she was a nursing student at san jose state university. a judge denied bail for the man accused of firing the shot that killed he . >> today the police department is teaming up with a youth center to host a gun buy back. it'll be held at youth up rising from ten to three. gun owners must prove they live in oakland. they will be paid $100 for hand guns and 200 for assault weapons. they must be working and unloaded. san francisco police chief is calling for a nationwide gun registry. he said this will let police officers know who has guns and that they have been checked and cleared. he said this will give officers the best chance to keep

livermore, 60 -- most of us, in 50s. 56napa, mid50s fairfield. on shore breeze continues at fairfield. we will watch this number to know how strong that delta breeze is blowing because it was a direct influence on how the temperatures will end up into the afternoon. that on shore breeze slowly weakening just a bit but very similar to how we woke up yesterday with the on shore breeze as well and the low clouds, north bay, south bay, well inland, mostly cloudy conditions in livermore and concord. backing it up and tracking this system now for several days, it's slowly making a path to the north and when it does, and as it does, temperatures are beginning to rebound. if you are going to the music festival partly to mostly cloudy and temperatures on the cool side. upper 50s to low 60s for the entire day so bring along the jacket. chances are you will need it. afternoon highs 78napa, 68

half of rain that fell just west of colorado springs. vehicle that weren't washed away were stranded and a highway was shut down. the floodwaters washed away a house. one witness said she was nearly crushed by the floating home. >> the woman's house came rushing down. i saw it coming. i took my backpack off, hooked it to the bar that i was holding onto and the house came rushing through the ditch and touched my shoulder. >> authorities say three people were injured and one is still missing this morning. the area was hit by wildfires last year making it at risk for flash floods because the soil doesn't absorb much water. as many as six are feared dead after a plane crash in connecticut. the plane went down into homes yesterday as it tried to land at an airport in the town of

east haven. the governor said rescuers saw at least two bodies in the wreck. >> he have water in the basement. we can't get in to the basement to do the investigation that's necessary to find this out. the home is still a little unstable so it's going to be tough to get in there. >> the ntsb said there were reports of two oro three people on the plane and several victims on the ground including children. the new york times reports a former microsoft executive and his son were on the plane. they had been touring colleges. four families from the bay area are suing boeing for last month's crash at san francisco international. they say the airline didn't properly train its pilots and they allege the design of the plane's control system didn't properly warn pilots about the danger until it was to late. the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. >> happening today the president is scheduled to land in florida in the next hour. he is speaking at the disabled

american veteran's convention in orlando at nine. he is expected to talk about the backlog of disability claims that has been key concerns among the vets. they say the backlog has ballooned since he took office. it is starting to drop because of mandatory overtime. the president and first lady will then fly to cape cod. they will vacation through next sunday the 18th. >> over the past four years we have worked to help millions of responsible homeowners get back on their feet. while we aren't where we need to be yet our housing market is starting to heal. >> before going to florida he used his weekly address to talk about getting help for the middle class. he called for congress to pass legislation that would make refinancing easier, help qualified families get mortgages and he said its time to get rid of fannie may and freddie mac. tomorrow the united states will reopen 18 embassies that were closed because of

terrorist threats. one in yemen and one in pakistan will stay shut. the closures started after messages were intercepted by authorities. a state department spokeswoman wouldn't discuss the reasons for their reopening and said there are still ongoing concerns about al-qaeda attacks. >> a reward is being offered for the return of a wheelchair owned by a disabled dog in richmond. smoocher requires the wheelchair. yesterday it was stolen after they returned from their walk. laura said she left it outside her home just for a few minutes and when she came back it was gone. >> a crime of opportunity. >> right. >> they didn't know what they had and we would like to get it back. >> she thinks whoever took it didn't know what it was and just wanted it for the parts. she said the dog can't walk and needs the chair to get around. right now she has to carry him.

whoever returns the chair will get the reward no questions asked. >> security may soon be stepped up at the laurel post office in oakland to stop people from breaking into a drop box outside. the mailbox has been broken into several times since june. they are still trying to find out how the people have been steal what is supposed to be a secure box. some are worried someone is going to try to steal their identity. >> in my out going mail was $700 worth of checks but a application for a credit union with my mother's maiden name, birthday, security number, everything. >> inspectors are asking more victims to come forward and say it may be best to just go inside the post office to mail. happening later today foam berkeley will march to try to stop the sale of a post office. since july 27th they have been camping outside the post office and at noon they planning

commission to march. the march will begin and end at the berkeley post office. the group said they won't give up until the city agrees not to sell the building. >> a warning, the next two months are critical times for avoiding west nile virus. this week seven birds in contra costa tested positive for the disease raising the total to 31 birds and four groups of mosquitoes. officials say it's important to wear repellant and get rid of standing water >> in today's back to school segment police, firefighters and paramedics will participate in an active shooter training drill. the drill will give them a chance to practice what to do if there is a gunman on practice. it's all happening at san leandro high school from two to five. new guidelines are giving schools healthier lunches. yesterday the district gave parents and so students a

. san jose tops the list when it comes to the most expensive places to raise a child. according to the company it costs in san jose $41,000 the first year of a baby's life. ouch. that is nearly double the national average of $26,000. many parents say that a new baby of course is priceless. >> don't let the cost scare you. it's super rewarding. i could ask for anything better. >> santa cruz was the second on the list. san francisco ranked 4th. some of the factors included housing, child care, health care and baby items.

san francisco are bringing nearly 150,000 people to the city by the bay. that's also bringing some major traffic concerns we are live in golden gate park. >> reporter: i'm told the people will be showing up much earlier trying to get a prime spot on the grass for today's shows. golden gate park will be filled with music lovers today and this will be just one of several spots around san francisco where you will find huge crowds this was the scene last night at the music festival with a one of a kind performance. a crowd of about 6 5,000 people were on hand to take in the show. that was day one of this three day music festival that continues through sunday.

throughous wind shield. a second was shot in the arm and took himself to the hospital. two male suspects are wanted in connection with the second shooting one person has been arrested in a triple stabbing. this happened after six near the corner of 23rd and south bend. police found three people who had been stabbed and rushed them to the hospital. the condition of the it would have the three has been upgraded and their injuries are not considered life threatening. a man is facing charges they hit his girlfriend during an attack caught on video. he pleaded not guilty yesterday to 47 counts of domestic violence prosecutorrers say he struck his girlfriend more than a hundred times after learning she cheated on him

he has appeared on oprah and on secret millionaire. his lawyers say he is being targeted for being famous. >> this always difficult when you have a high profile to not believe you are being singled out. >> a camera in his bedroom reportedly recorded the attack. the lawyers say it was taken illegally. a judge will consider a request to throw out the evidence. he is free after posting a one million dollar bail. >> four firefighters are recovering this morning after getting hurt in a fire. that fire started late yesterday afternoon in an empty building. flames spread to the roof of the structure . none of the injuries are considered life threatening. the cause is now under investigation. late last night the governor declared a state of emergency for a southern california community threatened by a fire. the silver fire is burning about 20 miles west of palm springs near banning. cal fire said 18,000 acres have

burned so far and flames have destroyed 26 homes and one business but there is some good news. authorities lifted some evacuation orders for residents in the area. officials say that fire fews have it about 40% contained but warmer weather and calmer winds could create tougher conditions. fighting wildfires with the help of nasa. coming up in 20 minutes the out of this world tools that the space agency is using to give fire crews the jump on fires. >> a settlement has been reached in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the parents of audrey pott. she killed herself, she was sexually assaulted by three class plates classmates and then photographs were passed around. the family has reached a deal with the owners of the home where the assault happened. they are also suing the boys

and a girl suspected of covering it up. one of the boys may have taken naked photographs of a second girl. photographs were found on his phone. it was taken after the boys knew pott had committed suicide. some students from schools across the state have allegedly posted images of the star achievement test on various social media sites. officials say the worst cases involve 16 schools where students posted test questions. four bay area high schools were among that group. yesterday an official described some of them. >> images of test booklet covers, images of what we call bubble art where a student may craft a message through the filling in of bubbles. >> officials say that 16

schools could loose state funds >> students from mill have been retaking the exam. their test scores were invalidated based on seating arrangements they say failed to follow protocol. some parents have teamed up with the district to file a lawsuit to restore the scores. students who started retaking them attached letters of protest to their tests. >> that's not how justice works in america. we want to have an investigation, we want to have an appeals process and that's what we are asking. in addition to giving back our scores. >> many of the students say they don't understand the ruling as nobody has been accused of cheating. the lawsuit has now been shifted to the federal court but a court date hasn't been determined. parking officers in san francisco have started taking pictures of the vehicles they are writing tickets for. on july 10th they started

enforcing the new directive. officers are not required to take pictures, main lue just the vehicles blocking driveways, parking on sidewalks and violating construction zone restrictions. so far just about 600 photographs have been taken. > the historic skunk train is rolling again. a tunnel collapsed four months ago and dumped two hundred tons of rocks onto the tracks. $300,000 were donated to pay for the repairs. it was built in 1885. it is now a tourist train that takes trips between fort bragg and willits. trips have resumed, service to fort bragg will resume on august 18th >> a lot happening around the bay area. let's turn to rosemary. little overcast out there in parts of the bay area. >> you are right. the marine layer just a bit shallower and the on shore breeze a bit weaker.

temperatures will be warmer in to the afternoon. getting into this warming trend is going to take time. today, just a minor bump in the afternoon high. take a look at that beautiful shot. low clouds hover over the east bay hills. this will burn away. mostly sunny skies for the afternoon and this change taking place is going to be a slow one. this system remains right here off the coastline of california as well as oregon. it's moving north but it's taking its time as it moves north the temperatures are starting to rebound. yesterday just a bit warmer than the day before and today a bit warmer than yesterday. once we get past the morning clouds, afternoon sun, away from the coast and the extended forecast the trend will continue. we will see patchy fog throughout the next several days but it'll start to pull back just a little bit. it won't be as widespread and takes until about wednesday before the inland communities get back in to the 90s. for today the on shore breeze continues, fair build with 20

has erupted killing at least six who were sleeping in a beach village. it happened early this morning in a province of the east. officials say the mountain shot smoke and ash more than 6500 feet into the air. nearly 3,000 people have been evacuated it sits along the ring of fire a loophole is letting hundreds of immigrants to pass the mexico border into the united states. according to several united states immigration agents immigrants are being taught to use keywords and phrases to be allowed to enter and stay in the country, specifically the phrase a fear about drug cartels. if they say this they have to be allowed in the country and give them a court date to return to proof they have a legit case, most don't come

new federal guidelines are giving schools healthier lunches. yesterday the district gave parents and students a chance to taste some of the new menu items. the district is offering 20 new items, that includes lasagna and sushi. they also require adding foods to the menu such as beans, and red, green, orange vegetables, eventually they plan to let students order online. yesterday the president signed into law new rules capping interest rates for student loans. they are now tied to the financial markets. the white house said it'll save a student $1,500 over the life of a loan. it also caps the interest rate for under graduate loans. rates for grad students and parent loans are just a bit higher. we have a back so school section to get you ready for the school year. it includes start dates for all bay area districts and ways to save on back to school

if you are going into the city you will have quite a bit of company. you can expect serious traffic. good idea to leave early. live in morning at san francisco, alex savage. >> san francisco police are investigating two separate overnight shootings in the bayview neighborhood. both took place around 11:00 at the first shooting police say one man was hurt by flying glass after a bullet went through his wind shield. at the second a man was shot in the arm and took himself to the hospital. the shootings happened six minutes apart and less than a mile from each other but police couldn't say if they are connected. one person has been arrested in a triple stabbing in san francisco. it happened just after six last night near the corner of 23rd. police found three people who had been stabbed and rushed them to san francisco general. the condition of two of the three victims has been upgraded and their injuries are no longer considered life threatening. the stabbing doesn't appear to be gang related movement police

are using twitter to crack down on bike theft. the department is sending out alerts about stolen bikes and posting pictures of the bikes they have recovered. the tweets also include tips on how to prevent bike thefts. more than 4,000 were taken last year. the governor is again asking the united states court to halt the release of thousands of inmates. he filed a formal appeal yesterday. the governor wants the court to overturn a lower court decision requiring california to release nearly 10,000 inmates early. if the court were to take up the case its ruling would come next year. that would be to late. california has been ordered to release inmates by the end of this year. >> a bay area internet business person and star is facing charges that he hit his girlfriend during an attack caught an video. he pleaded not guilty to 47 counts of domestic violence related crimes. he struck his girlfriend more than a hundred times on monday

recovering this morning after getting hurt in a fire on treasure island. that fire started late yesterday afternoon in unempty building. flames spread to the roof of the structure. the injuries aren't considered life threatening. the cause is now under investigation. late last night the governor declared a state of emergency for a southern california community threatened by a raging wildfire. the silver fire is burning about 20 miles west of palm springs. authorities lifted some evacuation orders for residents in that area. 18,000 acres have burned so far and the fire is about 40% contained. warm weather today could create tougher conditions for firefighters. officials say nearly twice as many acres have burned statewide over this time last year and they fear it'll get worse. the winds haven't even arrived yet and once they do, the already increased fire danger will shoot through the roof. this year fire season started about a month early because of the dry winter. >> firefighters in northern

lands festival in san francisco continues with more than 65,000 people expected to pack golden gate park. it's one of several big events in the city today. alex savage is live there for us right now. >> reporter: you can expect some traffic. it should be a pretty fun day in the city from boat races to baseball to some big name bands who will be playing here at day two of the outside lands music festival. things will start when the gates here open at about 11:00 o'clock. pretty soon music lovers will be filling up golden gate park. this is one of several popular events happening around san francisco today. last night music fans were treated to a one of a kind performance from sir paul mccartney who capped off day one of the outside lands music festival with a three hour set.

this is some dramatic flooding video from colorado. the cars are just being washed away by raging floodwaters. this was happening on friday night and came after nearly an inch and a half of rain fell just west of colorado springs. several other cars were stranded and an entire highway did have to be shut down. the floodwaters also washed away a house in the town of manitou springs. one witness was nearly crushed by the floating house. >> the woman's house came rushing down. i saw it coming. i took my backpack off, hooked it to the bar that i was holding onto, and the house came rushing through the drainage ditch and literally touched my shoulder. >> scary story. authority say three people were hurt. one person is still missing. that area was ravaged by wildfires last year and that made it particularly vulnerable to the flash floods because the

soil was not absorbing much water. a medical examiner in connecticut will perform autopsies on the four victims of a neighborhood plane crash today. this morning four bodies were recovered from the wreckage. the plane crashed into two homes in east haven yesterday. two children in one of the homes were killed, ages 1 and 13. a former microsoft executive and his son were on the plane. they also died. firefighters say the scene was incredibly dangerous with two hours fires and the plane on fire between them plus the threat of electrocution. >> we had some problems with the power lines. they were power lines that fed the homes. they were arcing heavily upon arrival. that's another consideration and hazard for us. >> authorities say they believe the four found this morning were the only victims. . security may soon be stepped up at the laurel post office in oakland to try to stop thieves from breaking into a drop box

police say the man lunged at s.w.a.t. officers with a foot-long kitchen knife. the officers had gone to the home on san pedro avenue after the man told dispatchers that he had killed someone. after shooting the man, police found a woman's body inside the home. the identities of the man and woman have not been released. a funeral is being held today for 19-year-old kimberly chico. she was riding in a car last weekend when she was hit and killed by stray bullet. she was a nursing student at san jose state university. yesterday a judge denied bail for the man accused of firing the shot that killed her. 23-year-old johnny lozano is facing one count of murder. san francisco police are investigating two separate overnight shootings in the bayview hunter's point neighborhood. both shootings happened around 11:00 p.m. at the first shooting one man was hurt by flying glass after a bullet went through his windshield much at the second one man was shot in the arm and took himself to the hospital. the shootings happened nine minutes apart and less than a

mile away from each other. one person has been airs arrested in a triple stabbing in san francisco. it happened around 6:00 last night. police found three people who were stabbed and rushed them to the hospital. police say the stabbing does not appear to be gang related. four san francisco firefighters are recovering after getting injured in a fire on treasure island. the fire began late yesterday afternoon in a vacant building. flames spread to the roof of the structure. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. that fire in southern california, last night governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency for a southern california community threatened by the raging wildfire. the silver fire is burning about 20 miles west of palm springs near the community of banning.

star achievement test on various soacialt media sites. the worst cases involve 16 schools from stiewbtss posted actual test. four bay area high schools were among that list of schools. yesterday one official described some of the photos. >> images of test booklet covers, images of what we call bubble art, where a student may craft a message through the filling in of bubbles. >> officials say the 16 schools where test questions were leaked could lose some state funding and become ineligible for performance awards. some of the 286 students from mills high school in millbrae have started retaking the advanced placement exam because last not college board invalidated may's test scores based on seating arrangements which they say failed to follow protocol.
